We the true fans · Straight talk

What LeaderBoard knows about youand what it never will

LeaderBoard is a fan-made app, built and paid for by one motocross fan. There is nothing to sell you and nobody to sell you to. Here is the whole list, in plain words.

Just browsing

If you never sign in

  • A random install number, so we can count installs. It is not your phone's ID and it can't be traced to you.
  • Which app version and platform you run, and when the app was opened.
  • That's the whole list. No name, no location, no contacts, nothing.
Fan account

If you create an account

  • Your email, only to send you the 6-digit sign-in code. No password to remember, no password to leak.
  • Whatever you choose to put in your fan profile: country and region, an age range, your favourite riders, bike, track and league. All optional. All yours to change or clear.
  • If someone invited you, we keep who. That's how we know the app spreads fan to fan, and it earns them a thank-you.
How we count

What we measure, and how

We count things, we don't watch people. How many times the panels open, whether a chart got shared, whether you went through the history gate, whether you came back on race weekend. These are numbers per day, sent in a batch when the app checks for new results, not a diary of what you looked at and when. Your favourite riders are counted in the fan totals on their panels, never shown with your name.

Never

What we will never do

  • No selling or sharing your data. Ever.
  • No ad networks, no tracking ads. If a brand ever appears in LeaderBoard, it's a partner we chose, shown as such, and it never gets your data.
  • No tracking kit from Google, Meta or anyone else inside the app.
  • No location from your phone or your connection.
  • No reading your contacts, photos or anything on your phone.
  • No notification that spoils a race result.
  • No fake fan numbers. What you see is what was counted.
Where & how long

Where it lives, and your say

  • On our own server in Europe, which we run ourselves. Push notifications travel through Apple and Google, as every app's must.
  • We think Europe's GDPR exists for good reasons, and we follow it gladly, not grudgingly.
  • Delete your account from the app any time. Your picks leave the fan counts the same day.
  • Usage counts are kept 13 months, to compare one season with the next, then deleted.
The formal part

The same thing, in the words the law asks for

The cards above are the plain version and they are the one we mean. This is the same thing, written the way the GDPR asks for it. Items in [brackets] are being confirmed.

Who is responsible

What we process, why, and on what legal basis

  • Counting installs and use (a random install number, app version, platform, when the app was opened, the daily counters): our legitimate interest in running and improving a free app.
  • Your account (your email address, the sign-in codes sent to it, your display name): needed to provide the service you asked for.
  • Your fan profile (country and region, age range, favourite riders, bike, track, league): your consent, given by filling them in; all optional, withdrawn by clearing them.
  • Invitations (the address you invite, who invited whom): our legitimate interest in a launch by invitation and in stopping abuse.
  • Security (the address your phone connects from, kept to limit sign-in attempts; the server's connection logs): our legitimate interest in keeping the service up and safe.
  • Notifications, if you turn them on: your consent; they travel through Apple's and Google's notification services.

Who sees it

Nobody outside, except the companies that host it: Infomaniak (Switzerland) for our server, its backups, this website and the sending of the sign-in e-mails; Apple and Google for notifications. They act on our instructions and get nothing else. No selling, no sharing, no advertising.

Where

On a server in Switzerland that we run ourselves, at Infomaniak, which also hosts this website; the European Union recognises Switzerland as protecting data the way it does. Notifications go through Apple and Google, who may process them in the United States under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

How long

  • Your account and profile: until you delete them. Our backups keep a copy for up to 12 months, and a backup is only ever used to restore the whole server.
  • Usage counts: 13 months, then deleted.
  • Sign-in codes: valid 10 minutes, deleted within the day. An unused invitation expires after 30 days.
  • Connection addresses kept for the sign-in limit: [a few days]. Server logs: [up to one year].

Your rights

To see what we hold about you, correct it, delete it, take a copy of it, limit or object to our use of it, and withdraw consent at any time. Write to support@leaderboard.fan, or, from the public launch, delete your account from the app. If you think we got it wrong, you can complain to the CNIL (cnil.fr).
